Steve Mix
Steve
Mix is a 13-year veteran of the NBA and a former NBA
All- Star. Steve played for four teams: Detroit, Philadelphia,
Milwaukee, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He had the opportunity
to play along side NBA Hall of Fame members, Bob Lanier,
Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Magic Johnson, and
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He was also fortunate in that he
was able to play in four championship series.
Steve’s
best year in the NBA was 1975, when he was an All-Star.
He averaged 15.6 points, shot 48% and pulled down 11
rebounds per game. For his career, Steve averaged 10.6
points per game, shot 49.8%, and 79.9% from the free
throw line.
As
a defensive player, Steve was always a tough defender,
shutting his man down quite often, while helping his
teammates out. In 1974, Steve averaged 2.6 steals per
game, 2nd in the NBA.
According
to many NBA coaches, Steve was able to succeed because
of his work ethic, dedication, and determination to become
the best player that he could. For the past 22 years,
he has used his extensive knowledge of the game as an
analyst for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Steve
has been inducted into the Rogers High School, Toledo
City League, University of Toledo, Mid- American Conference,
and the Ohio State Basketball Hall of Fames. This past
season the University of Toledo honored Steve by making
him the first athlete to have his number 50 retired.
In
the fall of 2006, Steve had the opportunity to work as
the Big Man coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. This past
August, he also worked with the big men of the Canadian
Senior Men’s Team.
As
owner of the Steve Mix Basketball Academy, Steve takes
the knowledge he has gained over the years and is able
to convey that information to the athletes who attend
his camps and clinics so they can understand it and make
it part of their game.
