The Workout with the Dieblers,
on September 8th, proved to be a huge success. We had two
sessions, one in the morning and another in the afternoon,
and the campers loved them. Keith Diebler, head coach at
Upper Sandusky High School and his sons Jake and Jon helped
out along with Claire Aubry, currently a senior at Upper
Sandusky High School. The campers started out by working
on their ball-handling. The idea was to get the campers
to work out of their comfort zone. Next they were shown
the passing circuit, by Coach Dibler, and demonstrated
by the helpers. The drill consisted of overhead, chest,
left and right hand passing, followed by behind the back
passing, all off the wall. A few passing drills later the
campers went into the perimeter jab series that will improve
the individuals one on one moves. Coach Diebler then had
the campers work on the proper technique for curls and
flairs. Toward the end of each session Jon, Jake and Claire
demonstrated ball-handling drills, both full and half court,
utilizing cones. The afternoon finished with one on one
game called Louisville. A lot of the parents stayed to
watch this work-out and I think they enjoyed it as much
as the kids, minus the sweat and sore muscles the next
day.

Fall Shooting, Ball-handling
and Conditioning Program
Our last program of the year
is a five week session that will help the kids get in great
shape prior to the start of their season. This program
runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm until 7:20pm for
the 5th/6th and the 7th and 8th graders. The high school
kids then attend from 7:30 pm until 9:00pm. This has always
been one of my favorite programs. The kids have a ball
in their hands for almost the entire time. As the weeks
move along and their conditioning improves, so will their
ball-handling and their shooting. As all these players
improve these three vital aspects of basketball, hopefully
their respective teams will also see improvement.
